Right in the thick of the action thanks to technology from beyerdynamic
Visually-impaired football fans also experienced the thrill of the game at a World Cup stadium
Visually-impaired fans can enjoy live football commentary at about half a dozen German-Bundesliga clubs without having to miss out on any of the special stadium atmosphere. This is thanks not only to the hard work of voluntary commentators but also to a special technology developed by beyerdynamic, a Heilbronn-based company specialising in high-quality audio solutions. As part of the World Cup 2006, the company has been selected as official outfitter of the seats reserved for visually-impaired fans.
beyerdynamic's TTS 300 System was also an instant hit with visually-impaired sports fans at “Spielvereinigung Greuther Fuerth” (Bavaria / Germany), the first 2nd division Bundesliga club, when it was used successfully last season. The mobile beyerdynamic TTS 300 System comprises transmission components for the commentator, special headsets for the fans, as well as charging and transport units. After successful testing by blind members of the “Sportfreunde Ronhof” fan club in autumn 2005, Spielvereinigung Greuther Fuerth, supported by donations, installed the technical requirements for permanent seats for visually-impaired fans with a live reporting service. "The technology was good and reliable throughout play", said Holger Ahrens, visually-impaired member of Sportfreunde Ronhof. The system enables a clear reception of the factual reporting and, at the same time, allows users to participate directly in the stadium atmosphere.
“Sehhunde”, Germany’s national club for blind and visually-impaired football fans, is working on extending this service for football. ”beyerdynamic is pleased to be able to support visually-impaired sports fans with this technology”, said CEO Wolfgang Luckhardt, explaining the commitment of his company. Other sports are now testing use of the technology for its fans: an initial test with special reporting for blind and visually-impaired handball fans at SG Flensburg-Handewitt last season met with a good response.
